Carcassonne

Carcassonne is a town located in the Occitanie region of southern France, best known for its massive medieval fortress. The Cité de Carcassonne features double walls and fifty-two towers, reflecting its strategic importance during the Middle Ages. Much of the current structure was extensively restored in the 19th century by architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc to preserve its Gothic character. The atmosphere is defined by a sense of timelessness, as the fortified city looms over the modern lower town. Visitors can walk along the high ramparts
